Quite perfect in a stunning Aalto building!
Everything was really nice!! The apartment was comfortable and well appointed and the location was ideal. There was also a lovely coffee shop right in the building.
A priviledge to be able to stay in this building
There is absolutely nothing to not like about staying at Säynätsalo Townhall - if you know what it is. It's an architectural icon in a small quiet town, filled once again with life by a dedicated caretaker. While international afficionados take the tour, you can actually spend a night or more in one of the apartments - in one of Alvar Aalto's main buildings, one that shows such much about what his architecture, his thought was about. The host is exceptionally friendly (you can buy his very readable book on the building and Aalto in the book store), and there is the fabulous aa-bakery right there for very tasty breakfasts. Easy parking, excellent communications, caring caretaker, apartment with all one needs - plus great walks in this quiet community to the near-by harbour or on more natural trails. A large supermarket is just across the street.

A great opportunity & experience
For anyone interested in the works and architecture of Alvar Aalto, a visit to his iconic Saynatsalo Town Hall is a must - even better if you can stay in one of the original guest rooms. Harri, who manages the town hall has a wealth of information and is eager to talk about the building and Aalto’s career on a guided tour. He also takes guests to Aalto’s Muuratsalo Experimental House a short distance by car or cycle, or boat ride across the lake. Although basic, the accomodation had all we needed for our short stay, with comfortable beds and bedding, a small kitchen and shower room, and cupboard shelves & hanging space for clothes. Breakfast is available at the excellent cafe ‘Aabakery' on the ground floor. There is also a supermarket across the road if you want to self cater or choice of local restaurants. The Alvar Aalto museum and other of his architectural works are only a few minutes drive away in Jyvaskyla. The quiet town of Saynatsalo with it's fabulous Town Hall is the perfect location to stay and a great opportunity to experience his work first hand.

C'est une chance de séjourner dans la mairie de Saynatsalo ! immersion totale dans cet ensemble exceptionnel d'Alvar Aalto, la chance aussi d'en profiter à plusieurs heures de la journée. Excellent accueil. La bonne surprise était aussi l'environnement immédiat du site : petit centre ville tous commerces, accès au lac très facile à pied, avec une offre de café, pâtisserie de qualité sur le site même, restaurant au bord du lac, l'ensemble très vacances
